religious trauma therapy
Religious trauma therapy may be a useful support for you if, like me:
you or people you love have experienced things in faith-based communities that do not reflect your inherent worth + dignity, and you’d like a safe person to support you as explore your soul’s unique path + what kind of relationship you may or may not still want with the Sacred.
your faith has dissolved, evolved, or is in an in-between, shifting, or un-resolved place.
you find concepts like ‘faith’, ‘church’, ‘prayer’ or ‘God’ difficult or triggering.
your soulful experiences + spirituality are associated with spiritual harm or trauma.

what we can do:
Traumatic events can shatter our core beliefs about the world & our place in it. These shattered assumptions can lead us to question people’s goodness, if the world is safe or trustworthy, or perhaps question our own worth & value.
This is not easy, and can lead to feeling vulnerable, anxious, lonely, deep sadness, or grief. We might feel like life has lost it’s purpose or meaning. As a former pastor with lived experience of recovery from religious trauma, I know how lonely this experience can be. I know how hard it can be to find a safe space and support following spiritual abuse.
Counselling can help recover from religious trauma by making a pathway from outgrown or broken beliefs and rebuilding new meaning and purpose. We do this by exploring & processing what matters to you, at a pace & in a way that feels right for you. I work with a range of modalities such as Acceptance Commitment Therapy (A.C.T.) and Depth Psychology.
some of the things we can do together:
explore new meaning-making.
recover from shattered assumptions + betrayal of trust.
get unstuck + find hope.
well being + mental health support.
heal from overwhelming life events.
process loss + grief
rebuild self-trust.
